Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Fortico Media Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) — the publisher of Cornwall Bound — collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit www.cornwallbound.com or contact us. We are the “data controller” for the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

Cornwall Bound is a publication of Fortico Media Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 8929887, VAT number GB 184 3841 87). Our registered office is 12A Belle Vue Lane, Bude, Cornwall EX23 8BR.

What we collect and why

Contact and enquiry forms. When you email us or submit any form on the site — an advertise enquiry, a contact message, a listing claim — we collect the information you choose to send us. Typically that includes your name, business name, email address, and the content of your message. We use it only to reply to you and, where relevant, to progress your enquiry into an advertising or listing arrangement.

Directory listings. If you claim or purchase a listing in our directory, we hold the business details you provide (name, address, phone, website, opening hours, photography and so on) for the purpose of publishing that listing and administering your account.

Analytics and site logs. Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information about visits — IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages viewed. We use this for security, troubleshooting, and to understand what content is useful to readers. We do not use this information to identify individuals.

Cookies. The site sets a small number of essential technical cookies (for example, remembering your preferred light/dark theme choice, and — if you are an administrator — WordPress login cookies). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. If we add analytics in future we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent. Read our Cookie Policy here.

Legal basis for processing

We rely on the following lawful bases under the UK GDPR:

  • Consent — when you send us an enquiry or subscribe to our newsletter.
  • Contract — where you have a paid listing or advertising arrangement with us.
  • Legitimate interests — running the site securely, replying to enquiries, and preventing misuse.
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to keep records (for example, for tax purposes).

How long we keep information

Enquiry messages are kept for 24 months, after which they are deleted unless we have an ongoing relationship with you. Directory listing records are kept for the duration of your subscription plus a further 12 months. Financial records (invoices, receipts) are kept for 6 years to meet HMRC requirements. Server logs are rotated every 30 days.

Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the small number of service providers that make the site work, all of whom are contractually required to protect it:

  • Our hosting provider (for hosting the website).
  • Our email provider (for sending you replies and confirmations).
  • Our payment processor (for processing subscriptions and one-off payments — payment card details are collected directly by them, not by us).
  • Professional advisers (accountants, lawyers) where necessary.

We do not transfer personal data outside the UK or EEA except where necessary to use standard tools like our email host, in which case we ensure the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate.
  • Ask us to delete your personal information (subject to any legal obligation to retain it).
  • Object to us processing your information, or ask us to restrict how we use it.
  • Ask us to transfer your information to another provider.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is our legal basis.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We aim to respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), the UK’s data protection regulator.
